AI examiner · estimated bands

An IELTS Speaking mock test, whenever you need one

Sophie Clarke, our AI examiner, takes you through all three parts of the Speaking test out loud. Afterwards you get an estimated band for each of the four criteria, with notes on what to improve.

How the test works

The same three parts as the real test

Sophie keeps time, asks follow-up questions and never tells you your score during the test — just like an examiner.

  1. 14–5 min

    Part 1: Interview

Sophie asks short questions about you: your home, work or studies, and everyday topics.

  2. 23–4 min

    Part 2: Long turn

You get a topic card and one minute to prepare, then speak for up to two minutes.

  3. 34–5 min

    Part 3: Discussion

Deeper questions linked to the Part 2 topic. Give reasons, examples and comparisons.

Your result

An estimated band for each criterion

Your answers are marked against the public IELTS Speaking band descriptors, in half bands from 0 to 9. The overall band is the average of the four criteria.

  • Fluency and coherence

Example note: Speaks at length with few pauses; link ideas with “so”, “whereas”, “that’s why”.

  • Lexical resource

Example note: Good everyday words; try more precise ones for feelings and opinions.

  • Grammatical range and accuracy

Example note: Mix of simple and complex sentences; watch past tenses in Part 2.

  • Pronunciation

Example note: Clear and easy to follow; good stress on key words.
